Have you ever wondered why your web page doesn’t get ranked for your keyword? Your keyword tool isn’t broken, according to Google. It is the new updated algorithm that is ranking your web page. Find out why below.
Some points I will show in this article are that not all keyword tools are equal. Web pages get ranked not by the keyword targeted in the article but by the article content.
Google has always said that content is king. Knowing this is the biggest reason to write quality content and let Google decide how to rank your content.
What Is The Keyword Search Tool
The keyword search tool is nothing more than a database of all the search terms that people use every day to find what they are looking for online. Whether it is products, reviews, baseball scores, lottery numbers, whatever. A collection of these search terms are filed in a database that records three metrics of searches. The volume of searches per month, the amount of traffic to expect from this search volume, and how many websites that are ranking for this search term.
These search terms are commonly known as a keyword. It can be one word, like in “baseball”, for example. The keyword can be two words, like in “baseball shoes”. A keyword can also be a long-tailed keyword meaning that it is a keyword term with more than three words in the term, like “baseball gloves size 7”.
What does this mean to an online marketer? Quite a bit, actually. An online marketer is in business to let people know about what he has that can solve their problem. He may be trying to give them information or sell them a product. Whatever his motives are if he can’t get his message in front of people all his time and efforts were in vain. This is what makes a keyword tool so valuable.
It helps him know what people are searching for and what search terms they are using. This gives him the information he needs to write an article that will get ranked high in the search engines that will let people find his article.
There are many keyword tools to choose from. Most of them allow free access for a limited amount of time, usually one month. Other keyword tools allow only a set number of free searches before you have to pay for the privilege to use it again.
Every keyword tool uses its own algorithm and is based solely on the number of participants that engage with that particular keyword tool. Google, the most used search engine online today, has the lion share of searches performed online giving it the most accurate information of search terms.
This is good and bad for the individual online marketer, however. It is good as far as accuracy in finding search terms that people are using. Googles Adwords Keyword Planner is their free keyword search tool for advertisers to buy certain keywords that will be clicked. Can you see where I am going with this?
It is bad because Google isn’t going to give out all the keywords that people search with. Google is in business in selling keywords, so it is in their best interest to only display the most expensive keywords to advertisers.
As an online marketer using Googles Adwords Keyword Planner to find the best keywords to write articles isn’t the wisest decision. Using another keyword tool is the better option. There are plenty of keyword tools available to pick and choose from in all price ranges and the metrics used by each company. I’ll list some keyword tools down below that I have found to be exceptional, great, and good.
What Google Uses To Rank Your Page Or Post
Contrary to what most people were taught or have learned is to target ‘one’ keyword in their article. The article will then get ranked on this keyword according to their SEO factors used on their web page. NOT TRUE! I’m about to reveal the truth behind what Google uses to rank your web page.
Google ranks your website content based on ALL of your words that it indexes and not just on your target keyword.
This is the reason Google says that Content is King because it ranks ALL of your words that it indexes – including your target keyword. As I have learned from a great teacher, Kyle, of Wealthy Affiliate, he said, “keywords are not the be all and end all of your content creation.”
The object of any online marketer should be to write quality content and not worry so much about a keyword term that may have a high volume of monthly searches. In fact, if you are having problems deciding on the exact keyword to target for your content then don’t target any – yes, any. Just write your article and let Google decide how to rank it and which keyword it chooses.
You may think that I am crazy or have lost my mind for saying this. I realize this goes against the standard procedure. But trust me on this. I have examples below to prove what I am revealing to you now.
If you are having doubts about what I am saying I challenge you to look with me as we go find all the keywords that you are ranked for.
Go open your Google Search Console (formerly known as WebMaster Tools) to see what I am telling you. Click on the Performance tab on the left-hand side of the page.
Next, scroll down the page and be sure the “Queries” is selected. This will then display every keyword query that your content is being ranked on. You may see your target keyword in the mix of keywords listed. These keywords could be in your article content or used by a search query to find your site. But I am willing to bet that you see a whole list of keywords that you never knew you were ranked for.
I am also willing to bet that some of these keywords you never even used in your article content.
The reason for this has to do with what search query someone used to find your content and how Google used the entire context of your content that it indexed to display in the search results. When you “write naturally” your content will contain other natural and LSI keywords.
Getting Page One Without A keyword
OK, this must be a mistake, right? Google doesn’t make mistakes as far as I know. Well, let me give the scoop of what has been happening to me recently. In fact, this has been the standard procedure at Google for a long time even though I was not aware of the exact method in how the process developed. Let me explain.
First of all, Google uses an algorithm that is secret (for the most part) that ranks websites according to the websites SEO factors (covered in my recent post How To SEO Your Website and Improve Rankings). You probably already know that Google as of this month (June) has unveiled a new update to their previous algorithm. Many websites are experiencing a change in their website traffic. Some good, some bad.
What I didn’t know and newly discovered is that Google ranks your website on ALL the words in your post, not just your targeted keyword. So this means that even if you write a post about “Best SEO Techniques”, for example, your web page may be ranked on Page One for “The Best Keyword Tool”.
Cross my heart. Really. I was as surprised as you may be when I was doing some keywords research via Google. I found a post that I submitted to the search engines two weeks prior that had been indexed but I couldn’t find it anywhere under the targeted keyword I was hoping to rank for.
Turns out the post was on Page one of Google – but under a keyword, I mentioned in my tag, as well as one of the headings in the post. But I wasn’t targeting this keyword. See the image below of my proof.
As you can see the #4 ranked website is mine – for the keyword “How To Use A Keyword Tool”. However, the actual post title is “How To SEO Your Website and Improve Rankings“. The only place in the whole article post that mentions How To Use A Keyword Tool is in the next-to-last heading which was explanations on how to use a keyword tool to SEO your website. It is also in the Tag information of the post.
So this is proof that a website post can rank on Page One of Google without a Targeted Keyword.

As an online entrepreneur, it is your job to create content articles for your website. Ideally, the content you create will rank on the first page of Google. If it does, you gain exposure to the traffic that uses the search term that you titled your article with. Or, in one of your headings or tags may land your article onto the first page.
The content that you write is what gets you on page one of the search engines. Not necessarily the keywords that were used but the quality of the content. Let no one tell you otherwise to write content to please the search engines. You are writing content to please the user. It is in the user experience that ranks your web page, not the keywords.
