This guide is a summary of what I have found by using the keyword tool Jaaxy. Even though this tool has a new interface in 2017, it still uses the advanced algorithm that has made Jaaxy one of the top keyword tools of this last decade. It plays a vital role in my online success.
It is a keyword tool for finding and using keywords for a webpage. I have found that not all keyword tools are equal. This guide will help point out if this keyword tool is right for you.
What Is a Keyword Research Tool
A keyword research tool is actually a database of all the known search terms that have been used to find things on the Internet. These search terms, also known as keywords, are the nuggets of gold that get traffic to the website’s webpage. Here is why.
The data that a keyword tool records is every search done on the search engines. This means the search term, or keywords that are used, the number of times each search term is used, where the search term is being searched, that is, locally or globally. So, it is an astronomical amount of data that is performed every day.
By learning how to understand this information a researcher will know how to maximize and profit from the use of these search terms, via keywords. From here going forward I will use the word “keyword” or “keywords” instead of “search term”.
This research tool is such an asset for any website. A lot can be learned from what is a keyword research tool and how to use it.
It is the search engine’s job to match the keyword that is being searched for to the webpage that is relative to this keyword. The search engine will find the closest match to the keyword being searched.
An exact match of this keyword with the keywords on the webpage it is using will rank highest in the search engine results page, or SERPs, for short. This will result in the coveted position one, or the first webpage listed in the SERPs.
How To Use A Keyword Research Tool
To get the web page to rank high in the search engines requires the web page to match with the targeted keyword. This research is performed best with a reliable keyword tool. Some terms to understand before doing a keyword research are:
- SERPs – search engine results page – is the data or websites that a search engine returns to a query.
- Search Volume – displayed in a number which is an average search volume in a given month on the particular search term. This is always the first column number. A keyword that gets a lot of searches is the first sign of a good keyword.
- Traffic – this is a number in the next column after search volume. It represents the number of visitors a webpage could receive if their webpage was ranked in position one, page one in the SERPs for that keyword.
- Competition – this number in the third column represents all websites that are ranking in the search engines for that search term. The higher the number means more competition for the search term. Another form of this word is QSR, which means quoted search results.
- KQI – or Keyword Quality Indicator is unique to Jaaxy and is the fourth column that represents the quality of the keyword and the possibility of ranking for this keyword. This is color coded: red is poor, yellow is normal, and green is great.
- SEO – which means search engine optimization – which are the rules that Google and the other search engines like Bing, or Yahoo use to determine the quality of the website in their SERPs. Even though every search engine uses a different algorithm in rating value, they all are very similar.
- Domains – This column is also unique to Jaaxy which allows you to learn if a domain focusing on this keyword is available with the suffix in .com, .net, or .org.
A keyword is generally more than just one word, though. It is known as a keyword term, which is more than two words. This keyword term is called a “long-tail” keyword. The more words that are used in the search query are usually more specific in nature. These keywords are valuable. I will explain this in greater detail below.
Basically, keywords act like road signs on the Internet highway. Without them, traffic whizzes right past the website without slowing down or stopping. In order for the website to get found it must attract this traffic whizzing by.
As I said earlier, an exact match of the searched keywords to a webpage will rank highest in the search engine. This will result in the coveted position one, or the first webpage listed in the SERPs (search engine results page).
In the picture I have included here you will see an example of what the keyword tool “Jaaxy” has found when a search was performed for ”What is a keyword tool for” and the results of that search are below.
In the example not only is the search term “what is a keyword tool for” displayed but also several other closely related search terms that are also highly used search terms.
You will notice that everything is organized into columns, with the keyword term on the left and the results of that search to the right given in numbers.
The top keyword term listed in this keyword tool is always the keyword term entered into the search navigation box. In this example, “what is a keyword tool for” was searched for.
The columns to the right of the keyword term are organized in search volume, traffic, QSR, KQI, SEO, and Domains.
The keyword term that was entered is “what is a keyword tool for”. In the first column, Avg, which means the average monthly total of search volume is 3668. This means that 3668 people were searching the Internet using this exact keyword.
This is a high number, which correlates to a large number of searches using that keyword. This is great!
In the next column, Traffic is 624, which means that if your website was ranked position one in the SERPs, then your website would get the majority of this number. The reason that this is not considered an exact number is because no one can predict which website a person will choose in the SERPs.
I believe Google predicts something like 85% of people selects the first website listed; 10% of people select the second website listed, and the other 5% will randomly choose any of the other websites listed, but extremely rare for them to choose a website beyond the fourth website listed.
The next column is QSR, or Quoted Search Results, which is the competition a website faces if they select this keyword. In this example, 12, are the number of websites already ranked for this keyword. The chances of writing content that will surpass this number of competing websites is pretty good.
The next column, KQI, means Keyword Quality Indicator, is green, which matches or proves the QSR number, which signals a good keyword term to try and get ranked for.
The next column is SEO, is 87, which is a score that is based on the traffic and competition, the higher the number the more likely you will rank for this keyword on the first page (scale of 1 – 100, higher = better). Personally, I like this number at least 90 or above.
The next keyword, the second keyword listed, is a keyword that is a close match to the keyword that was originally searched for. This keyword is already in the database of the keyword tool and is automatically displayed with its own results.
Notice which words are in bold type. This is an exact match to the original keyword with other words included that make it different from the original keyword. See below for comparison.

The results from this keyword are 3668, 624, and 1. This means that there are 3668 people that used this search term; 624 people are the total number of visitors available with the majority choosing the first website listed in the results page, and only 1 other website is actually ranked for this exact keyword.
This keyword is almost exactly like the original keyword searched for so the data is almost exactly the same.
Armed with this information a website will be able to narrow down which of these good keywords are the best to use when writing content for a webpage.
The one thing to remember is that this is only a tool that supplies the keywords that people have already used. People don’t always type in good proper language rules. In other words, just because a keyword term returns really great numbers doesn’t mean that it is a keyword that should be used.
In the picture below, the keyword, “creating website free” returns the results 1014, 173, and 19, which normally would indicate a good keyword. But personally it doesn’t fit into good proper language rules, so I would avoid it because it may look good for a machine but not for a human.
You are actually trying to please both, the search engines as well as humans. So it is always best to write in a proper language format. Always please the human first, then the search engines.
The same is true for the other keyword, “create website free” which displays the numbers 6360, 1082, and 200. These numbers make my mouth water, but the keyword is anything but good. Personally, I wouldn’t use it.

What Is Long Tail Keywords?
A long tail keyword is any keyword that is more than two or three words. Normally, a long tail keyword is specific which generally shows that the searcher is ready to buy.
For example – the first scenario – Two people are thinking about replacing their older television. The first person does a search “HDTV 32”. This long tail keyword shows that the searcher is looking for an HDTV that has a 32-inch screen.
This shows that the searcher is curious about what they may find. He may be looking for prices. He may be looking for brands, or features, warranties, or any number of different things.
Does this mean that he is ready to buy? NO, he is not ready to buy.
The second person has already done some checking so his search, “Samsung 32” HDTV, best price” is also a long tail keyword. The difference? He already knows the brand he wants; He also knows the size. All he wants is to know what is the lowest price.
Is he ready to buy? YES.
What Metrics Are Most Important?
The three main metrics that all keyword tools use are:
- search volume
These metrics give the website author the knowledge how well his content will rank in the search engines and whether or not he will receive any traffic from this content.
Understanding this data isn’t just in the numbers. There is a little more to it than just knowing the numbers.
Knowing the difference between information seekers and buying customers is also an important metric that isn’t portrayed in the three metrics listed.
A buying keyword would be closer to a specific keyword like “what is Jaaxy”, or “what is the best keyword tool for blogging”, or even “where can I find a good keyword tool for”, etc.
Generally speaking, a high volume of searches is always better than very little, and competing websites should be the lowest possible. Traffic is not a realistic number to always count on, but higher the number is better.
If the website is looking to sell products or it is promoting products for someone else (an affiliate site), then the following numbers are what to look for:
- 50 or more searches a month
- higher the number the better for traffic
- 300 or less for competition websites.
